Butterflies

For the past 16 days we have been watching the life cycle of a butterfly in the classroom.  It is a wonderful project and the students (and teachers) have learned so much!  We ordered the eggs from a company in London and when they arrived they were already caterpillars (larvae).  Then they grew bigger and bigger.  Then they formed a chrysalis (cocoon) and slept for about 9 days.  Starting on Thursday, the butterflies started to hatch from the chrysalis.  We were so excited!  When we arrived to school this morning all 5 butterflies where in the tent flying around.  This afternoon we had to let them fly away into nature.  We will miss them, but know that they are better off out in nature.

We love learning about insects and minibeasts!
